People in Mumbai are rejoicing over the rains after a long hot summer. Cutting chai, hot pakodas and vada pav make perfect companions but a weekend getaway will be the jewel on the crown. Here is my list of perfect monsoon weekend getaways from Mumbai:

  1. Malshej Ghat

This Place is engulfed in green mountains and numerous waterfalls. These mountains are a trekker’s paradise and nature lover’s delight. The waterfalls and the historic Shivneri fort makes it a popular picnic spot. Flamingoes are known to come here during monsoon. Furthermore,it is an excellent place for outdoor activities like camping, trekking and hiking.

  5. Matheran

Matheran provides a quiet and calm environment because of the no vehicle rule. The journey to Matheran is an exciting train ride in a heritage railway. This place offers breathtaking views as the cloud descends over it in the monsoon. There are altogether 30 points, 2 lakes, 4 worship places and a racecourse to visit inside Matheran. Beautiful old British-style architecture is preserved in Matheran.
