Reliance Jio had started providing free preview 4G offers to registered users, along with their own series of Lyf smartphones, a while back. Those interested in trying out Jio’s 4G network had to buy a Lyf phone to use the SIM. Now, Samsung and Reliance Jio have teamed up to provide freebies to users of certain devices from Samsung.

Users will be provided free access to VoLTE calling facility, SMS, and Jio Premium services such as JioPlay, JioOnDemand, JioBeats, JioMags, JioXpressNews, JioDrive, JioSecurity, and JioMoney for the first three months.

Reliance Jio is still not commercially available, but free offers have been made available by the company to attract customers. This worked like beta testing by software developers and the offers could be availed only by using a Lyf smartphone. But, this kind of tie-up with a smartphone manufacturer is a first for Reliance. The experiences shared by existing users are generally positive, but certain users are reporting that the speeds are a lot lower than what they got initially. The company has a pan-India license for 4G spectrum, hence the launch is highly awaited.

The devices

The smartphones on which the offers are valid are:

  • Galaxy S7 edge
  • Galaxy S7
  • Galaxy S6 edge+
  • Galaxy S6 edge
  • Galaxy S6
  • Galaxy Note5 duos
  • Galaxy Note5

  • Galaxy Note Edge
  • Galaxy A8
  • Galaxy A7 2016
  • Galaxy A7 2015
  • Galaxy A5 2016
  • Galaxy A5 2015

You have to generate a coupon on the phone (again non-transferable) to get the SIM. Users have to download the MyJio app from Play Store. If you are using an eligible device and have inserted a valid sim, you will get a pop-up showing the offer. The app will guide you through the process to register for the offer.

The SIM is available at Reliance Digital or Digital Mini Xpress stores. Address and identity proof are required.
