Amazing Start To Rio 2016 For India as Archer Atanu Das Finishes 5th, Through To The Knockouts.

What a start by India at the Rio 2016 Olympics! Atanu Das Secures Qualification To Round Of 32.

Atanu Das takes the 5th rank at the end of round 12 of the men’s individual archery event with a score of 58/60. His total points at the end of the ranking round stands at 683 points.

 As It Happened

Bengal boy Atanu Das was on fire in the last three rounds of the opening qualification round in the men’s archery event and has qualified for the elimination rounds with a 5th place finish.

He scored a score of 683/720 (337 in the first half, 347 in the second). He will be in action again on 8 August where he will take on 60th placed Jitbahadur Muktan who finished with a 607, compared to Atanu’s 683.

Anatu Das is the only Indian representative in the men’s category at the Rio Games. This is Das’s first Olympics.

Das had recently won silver with Deepika Kumari in the mixed category at the Archery World Cup in Antalya. He had also finished fourth in the individual recurve event at the same event.Das had earlier bagged two team silver medals (Wroclaw and Medellin, 2014) and two mixed pair bronze medals (Medellin 2013 and 2014) in the World Cups.

The Indian trio of Deepika Kumari, Laxmirani Majhi and Bombayla Devi will be in action in less than a couple of hours tonight. Can they outdo Atanu Das’ showing?
