Honor, Huawei’s smart-phone e-brand for digital natives, launched its latest flagship Honor 8, in Delhi on October 12. Two other phones launched alongside were Honor 8 Smart and Honor Holly 3, which is also the first ‘Make In India’ smartphone from Honor.
Honor 8 | Specs and Features
The flagship device features a 5.2 inch FHD display, at a PPI of 441 [How to calculate pixel density?]. It is a 2.5D glass which means it curves at the edges slightly to give it a premium feel. The back of the device is covered with glass while edges are metal. Powering the device is a Kirin 950 processor. Honor 8 runs on Android Marshmallow 6.0 and Huawei’s Emotion UI 4.1. The device comes with 32 GB storage, also expandable up to 128 GB, coupled with 4 GB of RAM. The phone comes with Hybrid dual Nano-SIM slot.
The highlight of the device is the dual camera setup. An RGB sensor coupled with a monochrome sensor aims to capture more light to create vivid images. Both cameras have 12 MP sensor while the selfie camera has an 8 MP sensor.
A fast finger-print scanner, which unlocks the device in 0.4 second, rests on the back of the phone. The scanner is a 3D scanner, which means it scans the depth of the ridges of the finger-print too. This also doubles up as a multi-function button. It can be customised to perform three actions – one each for single press, double press and press & hold. These functions worked well in the limited time we managed to use the phone after the event.
Honor 8 Smart | Specs and Features
This phone is very similar to Honor 8, with a few toned down features. The USPs of Honor 8 – dual camera, dual function finger-print scanner, etc – are obviously missing in this device.
Honor 8 Smart has a 5.2 inch FHD display to the front and metal to the back. The back looks like Huawei P9, with the glass at the top, sans the dual camera. The Smart variant has a 13 MP sensor at the back and 8 MP sensor at the front.
Meanwhile this phone is quipped with a 3000 mAh battery and runs on Kirin 650 chipset.
Honor Holly 3 | Specs and Features
Holly 3 is the first ‘Make In India’ smartphone from Honor. This has the biggest display among the three devices at 5.5 inches. While the other two phones have FHD display, Holly 3 has a 720p display. Holly 3 also has a 13 MP rear camera and an 8 MP front camera.
Though Honor announced that this device is powered by Kirin 620, the hardware info showed that it has Snapdragon 617 inside. It also comes with 3100 mAh battery.
